French Toast
A little over a year ago, we worked out transport with a rural shelter for an at risk emaciated little boy to make his way toward a better life. French Toast was one of a handful of dogs that were seized from a drug riddled property where they were underfed, under socialized, and some were even used for dog fighting and backyard breeding. Upon his arrival, we quickly learned that Toast didn’t have a mean bone in his body - just lots and lots of scared ones. He would dodge pets and refuse to look anyone in the eye, and would dart away from us if he could. He was just generally terrified of life, especially men, and it was obvious that he’d known very little kindness and affection in his life.
Fast forward a year (with lots of patience, reassurance, and guidance from his best friend and big brother), Toast is now Goose and is simply unrecognizable as the terrified dog that he used to be. When Goose and Vinny first met, it was love at first sight. The kind of love where we got to see a light and joy from Goose that we’d never seen, the kind of love that shocked even Vinny’s parents - and we just knew these boys were meant to be. Because who says soulmates have to be romantic anyway???
These boys are inseparable and have a bond like no other. They love their beach and hiking adventures with mom and dad of course, but they might like to cuddle with each other the very best We get Goose updates almost weekly and every single time, his parents thank us up and down for saving this special boy. They comment on his growth, how much love he has to give, and just how thankful they are that he gets to be a part of their family!
We could not ask for a happier ending of a story that started as poorly as Goose’s. This is what dreams are made of and exactly why Tori and I do what we do. Every single Swampie is special and deserves nothing but the very best; but there are some that just reaaaaally sneak into our hearts and refuse to leave, and Goose will always remain there.
Happy ever after, buddy. You earned this.
